Dingle, Ireland: The Gaelic Speaking Peninsula PDF E-mail
Dingle, Ireland

There is no other landscape in Western Europe with the density and variety of archaeological monuments as the Dingle Peninsula. This mountainous peninsula which extends out into the Atlantic Ocean, has supported various tribes and populations for almost 6,000 years. Due to the peninsula’s remote location, there is a remarkable preservation of over 2,000 monuments. This quaint little Irish town only has three main streets, Green Street, Main Street and John Street. As in most small Irish towns it is crowded with pubs, varying from large modern ones to a hole in the wall type. Dingle is particularly famous for their "town mascot", Fungie. Fungie is a fully-grown male bottlenose dolphin. As he plays close to the shore, visitors gather to watch him jump and play in the waves. He is extraordinarily friendly, and local services provide organized boat rides to see him close by.
